How can YOU help your child be a successful student?

THE PARENT'S PAGE

We all want our children to have the best educational experience possible, but sometimes it's hard to know how to help. The hints below are provided to give you some guidance.

BE THERE!

  • Be sure homework gets done; set aside a special time and place to work away from distractions

  • Encourage your child to be responsible for their work. Please DO NOT correct your child's work. New research on brain science tells us that kids actually grow their brains when they struggle to learn on their own. We will help each other here in class.

  • ALL students have the capacity to learn and achieve
great amounts of growth in ALL subjects. Be a
    cheerleader and encourage positive thinking.

  • Monitor television, video games, phone, and internet use.

  • Encourage reading. Let your child see you read and talk about what you read.

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards school and make education a top priority in your home

  • Be involved...volunteer! Your presence in school sends the message to your child that their education is very important to you!

  • Attend Parent/Teacher conferences

  • Check the Granite School District's GRADEBOOK site regularly to track your child's academic progress (you can set up an account from the district home page at www.graniteschools.org)

  • Check your child's planner each night and initial the page every night. Make this a habit!

  • Look through your child's Wednesday Envelope each week - celebrate successes                        and encourage your child to
complete redos; sign and return                            on the envelope on Thursday.
    Remember...NO late work is
    accepted.

KEEP IN TOUCH!

  • Don't hesitate to phone or email (see contact page) with questions or concerns. Please keep me informed if your phone number or email address changes. Let's build a parent/teacher relationship
